Deer death = Ocelot dinner

February 1, 2011

More non-bee news. I posted a picture of a dead deer that I happened by the other day, and the deer was reported to some Ocelot researchers on the Island. They went out that night and found an Ocelot (named Flash) that was snacking on the deer. They sent around this picture that they captured (by Jackie Willis). So a sad story for the deer equals an easy meal for a pretty cool cat! Wish I could have seen him, what an impressive animal. But I am still happy to be a melittologist!

Quinn, how big are those cats? Larger than a lynx/bobcat? But lighter? Beautiful animal.

      Hi Tia!
Unfortunately, I haven’t seen them myself but they seem to be about bobcat sized, something like twice the size of a domestic cat. They really are beautiful.
